GROOMING AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER

The conditioning starts with the good diet and adequate nutrition. Along with the nutritionally complete Vital Energy Whole Food Supplement from #1 ALL SYSTEMS. The most expensive and best formulated shampoos and conditioners cannot do the work designed – if the dogs coat is not in condition to receive the ultimate grooming.

It adds a sparkling look to the good coat and healthy skin. I use and highly recommend feeding the Vital Energy regardless of the diet you are using.
1. Variant – everyday grooming
-Step 1
A well-conditioned show coat should be bathed no less than every 7 to 10 days ideally. . The regular grooming of the coat of your dog is of a paramount importance. I recommend the Super cleaning and conditioning shampoo. It is the best all purpose tearless shampoo; it will only remove the excess oil and dirt and will never alter the natural pH of the skin and coat. Depending on your water – hard or soft, and how dirty or oily the dog is will determine how diluted you can make the shampoo- the general rule is the harder the water the dirtier the dog the less it can be diluted.
It contains no alcohol, oil or silicone ingredients which adversely affect skin and hair. It will not affect the natural color or texture of the coat.
- Step 2
Mix well 1 tablespoon of Protein Lotion Conditioner with a quart (1 liter) of warm water, pour solution evenly onto coat, work down to the skin with either a short rubber brush or the #1 ALL SYSTEMS Massage Brush.
For Holding Coat- I generally use the #1 ALL SYSTEMS Protein Lotion Conditioner and Pure Cosmetic Lanolin combination and I start as soon as the dogs’ own natural oils begin to diminish, normally commensurating with the dogs’ first coat change. I always use 2 tablespoons of the Protein and vary the amount of the lanolin based on density of coat, the thicker the heavier I use the lanolin. A general rule is to start at 2 to 2 of each. Apply as evenly as you can and then thoroughly rinse with warm water, the rinsing makes sure that you have the product more evenly through the layers of the coat to the skin. Lanolin is the only oil that can be absorbed by the skin and hair , nothing keeps the hair and skin in better condition or creates the ideal climate for maximum hair growth. It is however not water soluble. The coat will grab what it needs and only the excess will be rinsed away. A more difficult process to be mastered, but well worth the extra effort. It strengthens the elasticity of the hair/coat and restores the natural color. One the best reasons for using oils in the show coat is for the dog to be able to have a more normal active life and still maintain a beautiful show coat
Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel in the direction the coat grows.
2. Variant - Preparing the Coat for Show day
- Step 1
Apply the Super Cleaning and Conditioning Shampoo. Its unique formula will only remove the excess oil and dirt and will never alter the natural pH of the skin and coat. It contains no alcohol, oil or silicone ingredients which adversely affect skin and hair. It will not affect the natural color or texture of the coat.
- Step 2
Mix 1-2 ounces (30-50 ml.) of Product Stabilizer Coat Retexturizer and Skin refresher in a quart bottle (about 1 liter). Shake well. Pour the solution over the coat to saturate completely. Leave in coat for 60 seconds. Coat may be floated in the solution. Then rinse thoroughly.
We recommend using the Product Stabilizer 1-2 times per month minimum. Keep away from eyes. If contact with eyes, flush with cool water. Recommended for oily and suffering from dermatitis skin as well as for eliminating bad skin odor.
The Product Stabilizer improves the coat.
Excellent for dermatitis of all types: skin is naturally rid of infection causing bacteria allowing skin to heal quickly and naturally. Helps to eliminate odors, allergy causing agents from the skin and coat, inter-digital cysts, safely neutralizes alkaline stains (i.e. urine, saliva, food).
- Step 3
Wash with shampoo again but this time with the Professional formula whitening/brightening shampoo. It greatly reduces stains and brightens all coat colors, contains all natural, healthy ingredients, and contains no peroxide, bleach, silicone or bluing products which adversely affect skin and hair. It will strengthen the dog’s natural color safely, will not strip color and will enhance the natural texture of coat. Dilute 1 part to 5-10 part of water.
- Step 4
Use gloves when applying color conditioner.
Apply Color Enhancing Botanical Conditioner. It is formulated from plant and flowers. Coat texture and shine will be improved, not softened or dulled and weakened, as is generally the case with most coloring products. It does not contain ammonia, or bleach commonly found in coloring products. The longer you leave it in the hair, (minimum 3 minutes and up to 20 minutes) the more color and coverage will be achieved before rinsing.
Generally the effects should be obvious through 2-3 shampoos minimum.
RED/BROWN- For apricot, Red, Red Sable, Liver and Golden coats
MIDNIGHT- For dark and black silver coats
Apply the Color Enhancing Conditioner to wet hair/coat only over the dark/black areas and spread it evenly. Leave in the coat for a 1-5 minutes. The product may be left in the coat longer for a more even and deeper color enhancement and conditioning. The coat can be covered with a warm wet towel and/or plastic and placed under a drier for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Allow coat to cool 5-10 minutes before rinsing. Rinse thoroughly. No additional conditioning is required.
CAUTION: This product contains some ingredients that may cause skin irritation on certain individuals. A preliminary patch test according to following directions should be made. This product should not be used around the eyes. To do so could cause blindness.
IMPORTANT:
PRELIMINARY PATCH TEST
A patch test should be made before each application. Carefully cleanse skin about the size of a quarter in the armpit or inside of leg. Apply with a clean fresh cottonball #1 ALL SYSTEMS® Color Enhancing Botanical Conditioner and allow to dry. Leave uncovered and unwashed for 48 hours. If no signs of irritation appear, proceed with the application. Do not use on abrased or abnormal skin.
- Step 5
No matter how careful you are not to touch the white or lighter part of the coat with the Color Enhancing Shampoo, you would not succeed. In order to remove the unwanted residue and to make the white coat sparkling white use the Pure White Lightening Shampoo. You should be careful this time! Spread undiluted shampoo on the wet areas that need to be lightened. Leave it for 3-5 minutes maximum in order to successfully remove the stains. Rinse thoroughly.
Preparation for the dog show day
In the very day of the show
Always bring with you the #1 ALL SYSTEMS SELF RINSE CONDITIONING SHAMPOO AND COAT REFRESHER diluted of 5-10 parts water to 1 part shampoo in a spray bottle. This could make the winning difference from the dogs who tracked through the mud on the way to the ring vs the dog who was given the final touch up at ringside with the Self Rinse.
Mix 5-10 parts water to 1 part shampoo. Blot dry with a clean towel and then spray the area with Moisturizing coat protector and Enhancer. Then polish the coat with a soft towel. This product is perfect for bringing a shining polish, removes the residue of lacquer and talk and has incredible aroma.
